Boston, MA. As someone who has dedicated my life to supporting and uplifting progressive leaders, I have been profoundly inspired by the work and impact of Ayanna Pressley. A true thought leader and world citizen, Ayanna embodies the values of justice, equality, and compassion in her work as a U.S. Representative. It is with great admiration that wholeheartedly endorse her for her tireless efforts to create a more equitable and inclusive society.

Ayanna Pressley was born on February 3, 1974, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. Her journey to becoming a powerful advocate for the marginalized began early in life. Raised by a single mother who worked tirelessly to support their family, Ayanna understood the struggles faced by many Americans from a young age. Her mother, Sandra Pressley, was a tenants’ rights advocate and instilled in Ayanna a deep sense of justice and the importance of community service.

Ayanna’s educational journey led her to Boston University, where she began to cultivate her passion for public service.

She worked several jobs to support herself and eventually left college before completing her degree to take care of her mother. Despite this, Ayanna’s drive and commitment to making a difference did not wane. She went on to work as a community organizer and later served as a political aide to U.S. Representative Joseph P. Kennedy II and Senator John Kerry.

In 2009, Ayanna made history by becoming the first woman of color elected to the Boston City Council. During her tenure, she focused on issues such as combating violence against women, creating economic opportunities, and advocating for comprehensive sex education. Her leadership and advocacy earned her widespread respect and recognition.

In 2018, Ayanna Pressley achieved another historic milestone by becoming the first African American woman elected to represent Massachusetts in Congress. As a member of “The Squad,” a group of progressive Democratic congresswomen, Ayanna has been a formidable voice on issues such as criminal justice reform, healthcare access, economic justice, and reproductive rights. Her approach to policymaking is deeply informed by her own experiences and the voices of those she represents.

David Hogg: Parkland Survivor Turned Youth Activist Powerhouse

New York, N.Y. Thrust into the world of activism by the largest school shooting in American history, Parkland survivor David Hogg has become one of the most compelling voices of his generation. His call to “get over politics and get something done” challenges Americans to stand up, speak out, and work to elect morally just leaders, regardless of party affiliation. Passionate in his advocacy to end gun violence, David’s mission of increasing voter participation, civic engagement, and activism embraces a range of issues.

On February 14, 2018, David’s life changed forever. As a senior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, he lost friends, classmates, and teachers. A total of 17 people were killed when a lone teen gunman sprayed bullets from a high-powered military assault rifle. David’s eloquent responses to America’s largest school shooting immediately placed him in the national and international media spotlight.

Committed to becoming an agent for change, he resolved that no other young person should have to experience the tragic impact of gun violence. He joined with friends from high school to co-found March For Our Lives, now one of the world’s largest youth-led movements. Just five weeks after the shooting, March For Our Lives organized one of the largest protests in U.S. history, with Hogg addressing an estimated 800,000 people in Washington, D.C. He declared, “The sun shines on a new day—and it is ours!”

Since then, David’s activism has taken him around the country, meeting with impacted families and diverse communities to deepen his knowledge of gun safety and the politics of ending gun violence. With his younger sister, Lauren, also a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, he co-wrote #NeverAgain, a New York Times bestseller. David and Lauren also contributed to the best-selling book, Glimmer of Hope: How Tragedy Sparked a Movement, a compilation of writing from the founders of March For Our Lives.

In 2019, David headed to Harvard University and graduated in the spring of 2023.

He recently co-founded Leaders We Deserve, a grassroots political organization dedicated to electing young progressives to Congress and state legislatures across the country. “We will help defeat the far-right agenda and advance a progressive vision for our collective future,” David says.

A prolific voice on social media with over a million followers, David uses his platform to promote civic engagement, activism, and voting. As a speaker, he informs, challenges, and energizes, empowering his generation to resist apathy and become catalysts for positive social change. “People call us snowflakes,” he once tweeted. “What happens when snowflakes vote? That’s called an avalanche.”

New York, N.Y. Komite Pengungsi Internasional melengkapi klinik kesehatan pertama kami di kampus Orphans International Sumatera, setelah Tsunami Samudra Hindia tahun 2004. Bangunan ini dulunya merupakan klinik kesehatan provinsi yang telah ditutup satu dekade sebelumnya, dan dokter muda dari Jakarta pergi ke Banda Aceh untuk membantu upaya bantuan bencana, banyak yang menjadi sukarelawan di klinik kami.

Games: Rediscovering the Ancient Art of Dominoes

Domino games have been a part of human culture for millennia, with evidence of their existence dating back to ancient civilizations like Egypt, Greece, and Rome. These simple objects, with their numbered faces and endless possibilities, have captivated people across the globe, transcending cultural boundaries and serving as a universal language of chance and strategy.

New York, N.Y. It all started when I stumbled upon an old set of dominoes tucked away in a dusty corner of an attic. As I held the worn cubes in my hands, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of curiosity about their history and the games they once played a part in.

One of the most fascinating aspects of dice games is their connection to tile-based games like Mahjong. While the materials and gameplay mechanics may differ, both share a common thread of using dominoes, tiles or dice to create patterns, score points, and outwit opponents. Mahjong, with its intricate set of tiles and complex rules, has become a beloved pastime in many Asian countries, while dice games have found their way into various cultures, from the backgammon boards of the Middle East to the craps tables of Las Vegas.

As I delved deeper into the world of domino and dice games, I discovered a rich tapestry of traditions and variations. From the classic game of Yahtzee, where players strive to roll specific combinations of numbers, to the strategic depths of games like Backgammon, where dice rolls dictate the movement of pieces across a board, each game offered its own unique challenges and rewards.

Learning to play these games was an adventure in itself.

I spent countless hours poring over rulebooks, watching tutorials, and practicing with friends and family. Each roll of the dice brought a rush of anticipation, as the outcome could swing the game in an instant. It was a delicate dance between luck and skill, where calculated risks and strategic thinking could often overcome the whims of chance.

Through my journey, I gained a newfound appreciation for the timeless appeal of dice games. They are more than just a pastime; they are a celebration of human ingenuity, a testament to our ability to find joy and excitement in the simplest of objects.

As I continue to explore the world of dice games, I can’t help but share my experiences with others, using the power of social media to connect with fellow enthusiasts and spread the joy of these ancient pastimes.
