Wat Phra That Doi Kham (Temple of the Golden Mountain).

One of the most memorable highlights of our trip was our visit to Wat Phra That Doi Kham, an ancient temple perched high in the hills above Chiang Mai. This spiritual sanctuary, often referred to as the Temple of the Golden Mountain, offered a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city below.

Chiang Mai, Thailand. Exploring new places is always more enriching when accompanied by a local, especially one you are intimately connected with. This was precisely how I experienced Chiang Mai, a cultural and historical gem nestled in Thailand’s far north, close to the border of Myanmar. Accompanied by my life partner Bix Luce, our visit to this enchanting region was not just a journey through scenic landscapes but also a profound dive into spiritual and cultural immersion.

This spiritual sanctuary, often referred to as the Temple of the Golden Mountain, offered a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city below. The journey to the temple itself is an experience, as visitors must ascend 300 steps to reach the entrance. These steps, flanked by lush greenery and adorned with intricate carvings, set the tone for the spiritual adventure that awaited us.

At the summit, we were greeted by the awe-inspiring sight of a colossal Buddha statue. Standing at an impressive 60-foot, the statue emanates an aura of serenity and grace that is deeply moving. This towering figure, with its gentle smile and peaceful demeanor, is a profound symbol of enlightenment and tranquility, captivating all who behold it.
