Tsinghua University. Built in Beijing, China, in 1911 using some of the money the U.S. received from China after the Boxer Rebellion. The school was originally named Tsinghua College and was established as a preparatory school for Chinese students who wanted to study at American universities.
The school was built on the site of a former royal garden and its faculty were recruited from the U.S. by the YMCA. Graduates of the school could transfer directly to American universities as juniors. In 1929, the school became Tsinghua University and expanded to offer four-year undergraduate and post-graduate programs.
Tsinghua University is a public university in Beijing, and is affiliated with and funded by the Ministry of Education of China. It is considered one of China’s most beautiful campuses, with a large shade tree-filled old section that includes lotus ponds, waterfalls, and pavilions
