“Seven Sisters of American Protestantism.” Term apparently coined by William Hutchison, Professor of the History of Religion in America at Harvard Divinity School.
The “Seven Sisters” are:
- United Methodist Church (UMC) – 5.4 million members in the U.S.
- Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) – 2.9 million members.
- Episcopal Church (TEC) – 1.4 million in U.S.
- Presbyterian Church (USA) (PC-USA) – 1.1 million members
- American Baptist Churches USA (ABC-USA) – 1.1 million members
- United Church of Christ (UCC) – 710,000 members
- Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) (DOC) – 300,000 members.
