Red States. States that vote majority Republican, in contrast to Blue states that tend to vote for the Democratic Party. Blue States are primarily New England and New York, the Great Lake states, and the West Coast with Colorado. The Red States are every where else, primarily the South including Texas and the Southeast.
There is a correlation between Red and Blue states and the North-South divide of the U.S. Civil War. The Confederacy included the states of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
