    North Rhine-Westphalia. A state or province in Germany on the Dutch border.

    Cities are: Aachen, Bielefeld, Bochum, Bonn, Bottrop, Dortmund, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Hagen, Hamm, Herne, Cologne/Köln, Krefeld, Leverkusen, Mönchengladbach, Mülheim, Münster, Oberhausen, Remscheid, Solingen, and Wuppertal.

    There are 31 rural districts (Kreise), among which are Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis, Gütersloh, Herford, Lippe, Paderborn, and Wesel.

    Towns, such as Ennepetal, named after the river Ennepe, which flows through the municipality, or Detmold are located within rural districts (in this case, Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis and Lippe).
