    The New Left.  Loosely organized, mostly white student movement that advocated for democracy, civil rights, and various types of university reforms, and protested against the Vietnam war.

    Sociologist and Columbia professor C. Wright Mill coined and popularized the expression “New left” in the U.S. in his 1960 open letter, “Letter to the New Left.” He also coined the term, “Power Elite.”
