Native Americans. The indigenous peoples of the Americas who lived here before European settlers arrived in the 15th century, as well as their descendants who still identify with them. They are also sometimes called American Indians, First Americans, or Indigenous Americans.

Native Americans are often divided into two broad cultural groups: American Indians and Arctic peoples. American Indians are then further divided by region, including Northern America (present-day Canada and the United States), Middle America (present-day Mexico and Central America), and South America.
