    Miami University. Miami University is a public research university in Oxford, Ohio. The university was founded in 1809, making it the second-oldest university in Ohio and the 10th oldest public university in the U.S.

    This school was named in the original list of only eight universities in the 1985 publication by the Yale admissions officer in his term-coining book entitled, Public Ivies: A Guide to America’s Best Public Undergraduate Colleges and Universities: College of William & Mary (Virginia), Miami University (Ohio), University of California, University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill), University of Texas (Austin), University of Vermont (Burlington), and University of Virginia (Charlottesville).
