Meta Department. The department of Meta in the plains or Orinoquía Region of Colombia, South America.It is made up of four provinces and 29 municipalities

Meta covers an area from the Andes in the west to the vast lowland plains of Los Llanos. Its capital city Villavicencio is between foothills and plains in the northwest.

It’s known for parks, joropo dance and the cowboy sport coleo. The 19th-century Our Lady of Carmen Cathedral is in its main square, Liberators Park. To the south is Caño Cristales, a river with vivid aquatic plants.
