His political career began in the 1980s, and he has held various positions, including governor, congressperson, and senator, before ascending to the presidency.

His administration focuses on economic recovery, infrastructure development, and foreign policy, particularly in strengthening Philippine alliances with global powers like the United States.

Critics, however, point to his family’s controversial legacy, including allegations of corruption and human rights abuses during his father’s regime, as a polarizing aspect of his leadership.

Bongbong Marcos began his political journey in Ilocos Norte, serving as vice governor from 1980 to 1983 and later as governor from 1983 to 1986, until his family’s exile following the People Power Revolution.

After returning to the Philippines in 1991, he resumed his career, becoming a congressperson for Ilocos Norte’s second district (1992–1995, 2007–2010). He served as governor again from 1998 to 2007 and was elected senator from 2010 to 2016.

In 2016, Bongbong Marcos ran for vice president but lost narrowly, sparking a contentious electoral protest.

His 2022 presidential campaign, leveraging social media and a narrative of national unity, led to a landslide victory, marking a significant return of the Marcos family to the Malacañang Palace.

As President, Bongbong Marcos has prioritized infrastructure projects under the “Build Better More” initiative, aiming to modernize transportation and energy systems. His foreign policy emphasizes deepening ties with the United States and asserting Philippine rights in the West Philippine Sea amid tensions with China.

His administration has also faced scrutiny over press freedom and disinformation, with critics noting his campaign’s use of social media to reshape public perception of his family’s history. Despite controversies, Bongbong Marcos has garnered support for policies like fare discounts for senior citizens and persons with disabilities on public transportation.
