Magnum Opus (Latin for “great work”). Refers to the most important or greatest work of a writer, artist, or composer.
A magnum opus is the greatest work of an artist, writer, or composer, often considered their masterpiece. Examples include Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” and Pablo Picasso’s “Guernica.” The term can also be applied metaphorically to significant achievements in other fields. In alchemy, it refers to the process of creating the philosopher’s stone, symbolizing spiritual transformation.
The novel Moby Dick is often considered Herman Melville‘s magnum opus. “The Last Supper” is widely regarded as Leonardo da Vinci‘s magnum opus. “Guernica” is often cited as Pablo Picasso‘s magnum opus.
