    Richard Livingston Luce (1953-2001, age 49). Rick Luce was an early pioneer of artificial intelligence working with Texas Instruments in Austin in the 1990s. A graduate with dual Masters degrees in computer science from the University of Texas at Austin, he died unexpectedly with pancreatic cancer.

    He was the son of Dr. Stanford Luce and step-son of Dr. Louise Fiber Luce of  Miami University (Ohio) and son of Frances Dudley Alleman-Luce, a child psychologist from Boston who died in New York City.

    He was active in Toastmasters International and had recommended to his younger brother Jim Luce to learn public speaking through this organization to better grow his newly formed Orphans International Worldwide in 1999. He is survived by a daughter, Alison Luce, an University of Oregon graduate.

    An historic log cabin owned by Miami University in Oxford, Ohio was restored in memory of  Rick Luce, 2002.
