    Henry Robinson Luce (1898-1967, age 68). An American magazine magnate who founded Time, Life, Fortune, and Sports Illustrated magazines. Known as “Harry,” he has been called “the most influential private citizen in the America of his day.”

    He was born in China and died in Phoenix, Arizona. He was married to Clare Boothe Luce from 1935-67) and Lila Ross Hotz for twelve years before that (1923-35). He had two children, Henry Luce III (“Hank”) and Peter Paul Luce, and one grandson, H. Christopher Luce. His parents were Rev. Henry Winters Luce and Elizabeth Middleton.

    He was educated at The Hotchkiss School (1916), University of Oxford, Yale University, and Chefoo School in China.
