Lorde’s poetry and essays addressed issues of racism, sexism, and homophobia. She taught at Lehman College and John Jay College of Criminal Justice and was New York’s Poet Laureate from 1991-1992.
The Callen-Lorde Health Clinic serving the LGBTQ+ community in New York City is named after her and Michael Callen.
