    John Lennon (1940-80, age 40). An English singer, songwriter and musician. He gained worldwide fame as the founder, co-lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the Beatles (1960-69). His work included music, writing, drawings and film. His song “Imagine” is perhaps most remembered.

    Born in Liverpool and assassinated in front of the Dakota on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City, Dec. 8, 1980. He was married to Cynthia Lennon (1962-68) and Yoko Ono (1969-80). His children are Sean Ono Lennon and Julian Lennon.

    “Strawberry Field,” a memorial named after one of his songs, is located across form the Dakota in Central Park.
