Hypermasculinity. A sociological term referring to the exaggeration of male stereotypical behaviors, traits, and roles, often characterized by physical strength, aggression, dominance, and emotional suppression. It frequently involves the rejection of behaviors deemed “feminine” and the glorification of violence, risk-taking, and control over others.
Hypermasculinity is often associated with negative societal impacts, such as toxic masculinity, reinforcing gender inequality, promoting hostile attitudes toward women, and perpetuating homophobia. It can also contribute to mental health issues in men by discouraging emotional expression and vulnerability, ultimately limiting their ability to form healthy, empathetic relationships.
