Fatwa. A religious ruling on Islamic law issued by a qualified Islamic scholar. The word “fatwa” comes from the Arabic word f-t-y, which means “to decide” or “to give an opinion.” The concept of the fatwa is rooted in the Quranic commandment to seek knowledge and practice independent judgment.
