Enlightenment. A state of perfect knowledge or wisdom, combined with infinite compassion, often defined as ‘waking up’ or ‘buddhahood.’
Over 2,500 years ago, the Buddha taught that we are all walking around in a dream. A bad dream, in which we are somehow less than other people, incompetent, disable, or whatever negative, self-critical story one often tells oneself since childhood.
Siddhartha Gautama, the spiritual teacher who became known as the Buddha, is said to have attained enlightenment or circa 500 BCE under the Mahabodhi Tree, a large sacred fig tree located in Bodhgaya, Bihar, India.
