Earlham College is a private liberal arts college located in Richmond, Indiana. It was founded in 1847 by Quakers as the Friends Boarding School. Earlham was the second Quaker college established in the world, after Haverford College in Pennsylvania which was founded in 1833. Earlham has maintained a strong Quaker identity throughout its history. It was the first college west of the Appalachian Mountains to teach evolution, with professor Joseph Moore teaching Darwinian theories since 1864.
