    The term “Dalai Lama” is analogous to “Pope” – it is a position. It is usually referred to as “His Holiness the Dalai Lama.” The 14th Dalai Lama is the man known so well in the West who fled Tibet in 1959 and now resides as a guest in Dharamshala, once a British hill station in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
