Herman Badillo (1929–2014, age 85). A civil rights activist and the first Puerto Rican elected to the U.S. Congress. He served as a representative for New York from 1971 to 1977 and was known for his advocacy for education and housing reforms. Badillo was also involved in New York City politics.
