Upbeat: Global Artists Unite for Peace, Environmental Justice

New Anthem: Sara Bareilles, Chris Pierce, and PFC Band collaborate with international musicians to inspire hope and action through cross-cultural harmonies.

New York, N.Y. – A global ensemble of musicians led by GRAMMY award-winning artist Sara Bareilles and soulful vocalist Chris Pierce united across continents to release “Playing For Change,” a stirring anthem for unity and environmental justice.

Premiered during the Peace Through Music 2021 global event, the collaborative Song Around The World merges talents from six countries, embodying the Playing For Change movement’s mission to bridge divides through music. Released on December 16, 2021, the track and its accompanying video have amassed over 1.6 million views, amplifying calls for solidarity amid pressing ecological challenges.

A Symphony of Shared Purpose

The song, penned by Sara Bareilles, blends her signature heartfelt lyricism with contributions from Chris Pierce, the PFC Band, and musicians spanning Zimbabwe, Iran, Japan, and Native American communities.

Backed by rhythmic marimba, haunting hang drums, and spirited vocals, the track’s refrain—“keep playing for love; playing for peace; playing for change”—resonates as both a rallying cry and a meditation on collective resilience.

Produced by Playing For Change (PFC), dedicated to fostering global connections through music, the project highlights artists like Zimbabwean marimba virtuoso Abel Mafuleni and Iranian percussionist Ehssan Karimi.

Native American Iron Cult dancers add a visceral layer of cultural storytelling, grounding the song in traditions of land stewardship.

Harmonizing Activism and Art

Premiered during the Peace Through Music: A Global Event for the Environment, the collaboration underscores partnerships with environmental organizations like American RiversWorld Wildlife Fund, and Conservation International.

“Music transcends borders,” said Mark Johnson, PFC co-founder. “By uniting artists globally, we remind people that environmental justice isn’t a local issue—it’s a human one.”

The initiative aligns with PFC’s dual focus: producing uplifting multimedia projects and supporting grassroots music education via the Playing For Change Foundation, which has established over fifty music programs worldwide. “This song isn’t just about awareness,” added Sara Bareilles. “It’s about finding joy in the fight for a better world.”
