New York, N.Y. During my college years, I had the privilege of serving as a camp counselor for Easter Seals in Pennsylvania (story). It was here, amidst the rolling hills and serene lakes, that we witnessed the immense needs of Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable children. These young souls, each with their unique challenges and triumphs, opened our eyes and hearts to a world often overlooked by many.
We saw children whose lives were a constant battle against physical, mental, and emotional hardships. Yet, despite these challenges, their spirits remained unbroken. Their laughter, determination, and pure joy in the simplest of moments were infectious. We fell in love with each of them, wishing we could take them all into our home, offering them the security and love they so richly deserved.
Fast-forward decades, and our connection to Pennsylvania’s children remains strong. Today, we look to Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, with immense hope and admiration. His commitment to the welfare of the state’s most vulnerable is evident in every policy he champions and every decision he makes.
