Fernand Léger (1881-1955, age 74). A French painter, sculptor, and filmmaker. In his early works he created a personal form of cubism which he gradually modified into a more figurative, populist style. His boldly simplified treatment of modern subject matter has caused him to be regarded as a forerunner of pop art.
He is known for his distinctive period including Modern art, Cubism, Modernism, and Section d’Or
Born in Argentan, France and died in Gif-sur-Yvette, France. He was married twice, from 1919–1950, and then again from 1952–1955.
