    Dior, Christian (b.1905-57, age 52). A French designer considered today one of the founders of fashion. He started his own fashion house in 1946, with his first collection showing in 1947. He often said he created “flower dresses,” and was influential in shaping the direction in which women’s fashion was heading in the 20th century. He died in 1957 of a sudden heart attack while playing cards.

    He was an LGBTQ+ pioneer, living his life as an openly gay man.
